Volunteering

Volunteering at the Peacock Playhouse

Great Performances. Great People. Give the gift of time!

We're always looking for volunteers to donate their time and talents. It's a big part of how we stay healthy and part of the community, and it's a great way for you to join us behind the scenes. We'd love to match your interests and skills with our needs. Just call our office and let us help to find the perfect fit for you. (828) 389-2787.

Any show needs as many "backstage" people as it does performers. There are sets and scenery to build and paint, costumes to design and build, and props to find. We have some established volunteer programs that are on-going throughout the year.

Ushers -
Are you a patron who has always wanted to work in a theater? Come be part of the team as a volunteer usher! We’re looking for dedicated, friendly people to assist patrons with seating, programs and general customer service. We want our patrons to have a wonderful experience every time they enter the theater. As an usher, you can and do make the difference. Ushers must be professional, attentive, and must listen and communicate well. Best of all, you can see the show for free!

Acting - All of our actors are volunteers. Working in a collaborative environment with your fellow cast members, the director and crew, you’ll find acting to be an extremely rewarding experience. Check our audition schedule.

Reservations and Ticket Booth - The box office opens two weeks before musicals and one week before plays. Its hours are 10AM-2PM on those days. It is also open before shows. Sign up for a shift to accept reservations or sell tickets.

Costumes - We may need a 1920s gangster suit for a 10-year old or a 1950s dress for a debutante. In the theater’s costume department, there are lots of ways to help. If you can thread a needle or sew a hem, you could be part of the fun.

Make-up - Hair and make-up skills range from creating the subtle to the dramatic. Sometimes styles change between acts. Be part of the excitement!

Set Building - Set building is very enjoyable for the right individuals! Watch the stage come to life under your own hands. We provide the tools and guidance, and you provide the energy.

Stage Hands - Volunteers change scenery, props and costumes before, during and after a show.

Prop Finder -
Do you enjoy scavenger hunts and have a fascination with antiques, oddities, and other interesting "junk"? If so, prop finding could be a perfect match for you. Props can come from flea markets, thrift shops, eBay, prop shops and many other sources.

Music - From the orchestra pit, professional and nonprofessional musicians gather to add the final touch of music to the production.

Publicity - The success of any production depends on spreading the word! Publicity volunteers write press releases and public service announcements while other volunteers can put up posters at area retail locations.

Administrative/Office - Volunteers with clerical and telephone skills are always needed in the office.
